Airports are typically difficult facilities to secure. With their dynamic environment, sprawling airfields and private air聽operations, these are just a few of the challenges airports have in considering site-wide security. With airport security still taking a high priority in national security, new approaches to solving long standing problems are a welcome addition to helping airports meet their protection objectives.
I had the privilege of assisting the Elmira Corning Regional Airport in designing two new methods of protecting the airport.聽In an article published by Airport Improvement Magazine, the two new concepts are explained. The first being a virtual fence system tied to the access control system to protect the AOA and the second being automated exit lane monitoring.
